It was the most glorious fall I had ever seen. Colorado was ablaze in a profusion of red and gold and burnt orange. The energy in the mile-high city of Denver was spirited– inspired no doubt by the abundant beauty right in front of everyone’s eyes. I had a great time there in every way. Thank you Bonnie and thank you Kathleen for bringing so many wonderful folks into my life to share my work with.
On the 15th of October I arrived in Singapore, after spending 20 hours in the air. Singapore is the apotheosis of an ultra-modern, immaculate metropolis that is constantly outgrowing itself. Most of the buildings seem to have been put-up only yesterday, yet half the town is still under construction.
Once a small, equatorial fishing village; today Singapore sparkles in the tropical sunshine, a thriving economic power second only to Japan on the Asian continent. Once a jewel in the British crown and later a part of Malaysia, Singapore is now a ravenously ambitious sovereign city-state and the ninth richest country on the planet. It seems every major retail operation in the world has a branch here.
Despite their economic aspirations, the folks who live here have a gentle, non-aggressive energy and an obsequious manner of self-presentation but do not be fooled. Singaporeans put their energies into being impeccable and the results are impressive. Still, while they pay attention to every matter-at-hand down to the last detail, they seem ill-at-ease in the face of human emotion and mortified when they have failed to please. They have a hard time dealing with spontaneity.
At 1 degree north of the Equator, the climate is hot and sticky. Still, everything is cooled down in Singapore. The glittery, multi-tiered shopping centers that go on for days, the unbelievable choice of hotels and restaurants, the tennis courts (oh yes); every place in Singapore seems climate-controlled. The impressive skyline rising in the air-conditioned air features gleaming glass structures that make a conspicuous statement of industry and prosperity. Singapore is dressed for success and its three and one-half million inhabitants are focused on getting it right. As long as there are no surprises.
The main reason I came here was to participate in the Holistic Living Festival and the Holistic Living Week that follows. Held in Fort Canning Center situated upon a hill overlooking the park of the same name, the festival is held twice a year (spring and fall) and draws a crowd of thousands. The normally materialistic population is obviously starving for spirituality.
Participating in the festival were healers and soothsayers, theosophists and rosecrucianists, peddlers of crystals, candles and essential oils, food and beverage vendors, practitioners of reiki, bio-energetics and integrated vibrational therapy, soul nourishment, feng shui, space clearing and Sylva mind control. Then there was me, the sole participant from the USA. I never thought I would do this sort of gig again, but I am glad that I did because I connected with so many fascinating people. I gave a talk in the courtyard to a group of about twenty and spoke of my approach to astrology.
What I shared with the group that day was mainly the result of where my work has led me to in the past year. I mentioned an experience I had in Hong Kong in 1995. A Malaysian girl I met, upon hearing me say I was an astrologer, responded with the statement that millions of people have spoken and written about the subject of astrology for thousands of years and, as a result, that is what we are doing.
In other words, life is what we make it. There may be a divine and absolute truth, yet here on earth as human beings, divine truth is beyond our frame-of reference. What we do have is human truth, the creation of which is up to each one of us.
It has often been said that what call reality is an illusion. An illusion become real when we learn to love it. This has been a message handed down through the ages, yet it usually it comes in the form of a disguise. It is a truth that has kept that wonderful story Pinocchio alive for generations–a story about a wooden puppet who becomes human. More recently, the vastly misunderstood film, “Artificial Intelligence”, played on the same theme as a robot is programmed to love and over thousands of years becomes a real boy. Anything is possible, any dream can come true, anybody can do anything if there is enough love to realize the initial intention.
At the Singapore Holistic Living Festival, surrounded by the love and the open-hearted exchanges that love inspires, we were all one, all part of a unifying cosmic energy and a magnificent universal intelligence . In that span of time, everyone forgot the roles they had been hiding behind and the veils of illusion gave way to the reality.
